Bio

Kirstine Autzen is a visual artist working with photographic practices, text and installation to explore questions of transformation and hybridity.

Conceptions of nature, the history of collection practices and botanical illustration take up a central part of her practice. Research into the history of natural history and natural science mix with an interest in philosophical questions concerning becoming, growth, memory, and loss in a process-oriented exploration both organic and human-made materials.

Her works carry visible traces of the process, as she creates a set of alternative techniques to blur boundaries between analogue and digital working spaces.

In her practice as a curator and art writer, she has specialised in post-photographic practices, uncovering how artists can employ the flexibility of the photographic medium to counter and challenge commercial and mainstream visual culture. As part of this work, she has been part of founding and running artist run initiatives, gives lectures and workshops, and she has written numerous interviews and articles.
