Branching Scenarios
2023-2025
Sculpture, photographs, drawings, video
Branching Scenarios brings together several years of research and artistic experimentation around organic form and the motif of branching. The works unfold through photography, sculpture, ink drawings, video, and experimental translations between materials and media.
The project reflects on the transformative cycles of growth, rupture, and renewal. While these processes are often associated with organic matter, they extend into the blurred zones between the natural and the synthetic—into bodies, materials, and environments shaped by both. The works weave together photographic records from cityscapes, natural environments, and European natural history museums with studio-based experiments that test the boundaries of transformation.
Branching serves as both a visual and conceptual thread: a structure of growth and connection found in trees, roots, and seed wings, but also a metaphor that shapes how we understand evolution, classification, and kinship. Another recurring element is fluidity and moisture—forces that catalyze change and exchange between materials. Even a trace of humidity can set transformation in motion, as in one work where glue’s residual moisture created an unexpected habitat for fungal growth.
